Contsance Germany (Konstanz, Deutschland) and the Rude Awakening

So - I just recently returned from Constance, Germany. The photo immediately below is a picture of Konstanzer Münster (Constance Cathedral) and the one below is taken from the spire area atop the cathedral looking out onto Lake Constance (known to German speakers as der Bodensee). September is a wonderful time of the year to be in this part of Germany (Baden-Württemburg).

The lake lies on the north side of the Swiss Alps, at the meeting point of Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, forming part of the course of the River Rhine.

Dinner with My Son...

With both my children all grown up, it's not often that I get to sit down and have a meal with them....just because. So, while my husband was being busy with his job and my son home from a little road trip, I decided to cook us dinner. Cooking is one of my hobbies and favorite things to do, especially when I'm preparing a meal for someone else.
I recently had purchased Trisha Yearwood's cookbooks and decided this would be a good time to try it her way. I'm so glad I did! For starters, Trisha fixes her mac n cheese in a crockpot! I've never had it this way or prepared in this manner. I must tell you that it was very delicious! I fixed the roast beef with gravy. It takes 3 hours for both to cook so, I was able to go off and do other things. I loved that!
And then, for dessert, I fixed her quick and easy apple dumplings. I was a little hesitant about it because I'm accustomed to fixing them from scratch BUT oh my goodness....they were very scrumptious.
My son loved it and so did I! I can't wait to try some of the other recipes Trish's way.

My Ancestry Journey Continues....

Did you watch "Who do you think you are?" last night? Well, I did and I loved the story on Cindy Crawford's family. Her family history took her all the way back to the 700s! Wow! I'm not going to summarize her story here but I encourage you to watch it on TLC.
Well, I finally got my results from Ancestry! I was shocked! And not that I didn't have American Indian in me. I did have 4% "Uncertain", so I upload my DNA results to Gedmatch. What is Gedmatch? Well, it's a website that offers a service that makes a deeper comparison between genealogies and DNA test results to identify ancestral connections with distant cousins. Exciting, right? So, Gedmatch will unveil the 4% "Uncertain" and will breakdown the other ethnicities cited by Ancestry DNA.
I am happy to report that I have met via the website, several new cousins. One of which, I've become friends with on Facebook. This journey is turning out to be pretty amazing thus far.

Chop Salad....

During the summer months I really don't want to eat anything but fresh veggies and fruits. And how can you use them for dinner...nothing quite beats a good old chop salad. The beautiful thing about a chop salad, is that you can make it however you want using those fresh veggies and fruits. Chop those veggies and fruits in small bits, add your favorite salad dressing and there's dinner....or lunch. And because there are many different variations of mixing veggies, fruits, and salad shouldn't grow too bored with the chop salad. or my pinterest page

Farmhouse Love...

I love the conveniences that living in the city offers. However, I grew up in the country and there are things about the country that I love as well...gardens, farm animals, pastures, trees, streams, and country cooking. Most of all, I really love the architecture...barns and FARMHOUSES! Who doesn't love a well kept farmhouse, right?
If you are lucky enough to find an original farmhouse with the perfect surroundings, chances are it will need some repairs.
Take a look at some of the farmhouses I found on various sites and saved to my Pinterest. If you click on the link, it will take you to my pin. The pins will take you to the original site.

Who do you think you are? You might be surprised

Have you ever sat down with older family members and listen to their stories about your ancestors? Has any of the stories left you wanting to know more about your family? Well, I've heard so many stories that it left me wondering about the DNA that flowed through my veins. It's no wonder I became hooked on the television show "Who do you think you are?". If you haven't seen it and don't know what it's all about, the show shares celebrities discovering amazing things about their families/ancestors. I'm currently working on my family tree and my husband's family tree on I've got to tell you, we are having a lot of fun with it. There's a lot of research involved but well worth it.
